When was your cambelt last changed?
79% of UK garages say cambelts are the most delayed maintenance job people put off.

The problem? When they fail, the repair bill typically lands somewhere between £1,000 and £3,000, plus the joy of unexpected down-time. Not exactly a bargain.

At CMS AutoCare, we fit high-quality cambelt kits using the correct special tools and verified procedures from trusted data sources. We’ll even set a reminder for your next interval so it doesn’t slip your mind.

Not all engine oil is the same
A lot of garages still use “one oil fits all”.

The issue is simple: modern engines are picky.
The wrong oil causes silent internal wear you won’t notice until it’s too late, and by that point, the repair bill can be more than the car is worth.

We keep common oils on the shelf, but every vehicle gets it's exact spec checked first. If it needs something different, We order the correct grade and approval.

No guessing, no “close enough”. If you want to know what your engine should be running, get in touch with your reg and we'll check it for you

The 5 Checks you can do today to check your vehicles health!
These 5 checks can save you time, money and even points on your license!

1️⃣ Tyres
Tyres are vital, they’re the only thing connecting you to the road. Check your tyre pressures every time you fill up with fuel (most petrol stations have a machine for it). You’ll find the correct pressures in the filler flap or door frame. While you’re at it, inspect the tread. Turn the steering fully one way to see the front tyres clearly. Look for the small raised bars within the grooves, those are your wear indicators. If the tread is level with them, it’s time for replacements.
2️⃣ Oil, Coolant & Brake Fluid
These three fluids keep your engine and brakes healthy. On level ground, pop the bonnet and check the coolant and brake fluid reservoirs, levels should sit between the minimum and maximum marks.
⚠️ Never remove the caps when the engine is hot.
If the coolant is low, you can top it up with a little clean water, but brake fluid should only be topped up by a professional, give us a call if you’re unsure.
To check your oil, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, refit it fully, then remove again to read the level. Top up in small amounts if it’s below the mark. While you’re there, top up your screenwash with proper washer fluid, no fairy liquid or plain water, please!
3️⃣ Lights & Wipers
Now that your washer fluid’s full, check your wipers. They should clear the screen cleanly without leaving smears, if they do, it’s time for new blades.
Next, turn on all your lights: dipped, main beam, fogs, indicators, and hazards. With the ignition on and the engine off, put the car in reverse and walk around to check they all work correctly and in the right colour. To check your brake lights, ask someone to help, or reverse up to a wall or garage door and look for the reflection.
4️⃣ Listen & Feel
Notice any knocks, squeals, or changes in handling? Take the car for a short drive with the radio off, your senses often pick up issues before warning lights do. Getting small noises checked early can prevent big repair bills later.
5️⃣ Service History
When was your last service? Check your service book or the paperwork you received from us. We recommend regular interim services, more frequent oil changes mean less wear and tear on engine components and fewer surprise bills in the long run.
If you’re unsure at any stage, we can help. Give us a call, we’ll advise your next steps and make sure your car stays safe and reliable.

Oil changes are Vital!
Did you know your brakes can stop working if you don’t change your engine oil?

This driver found out the hard way; their brake pedal went solid whilst driving and they had to use the handbrake to stop!
The cause? Oil hadn’t been changed for tens of thousands of miles. The result was thick carbon sludge clogging everything, which made its way past the filter into the vacuum pump (responsible for brake assistance) and even the turbocharger.
We were able to squeeze the car in after a cancellation and get them safely back on the road.
